Shea butter has both emollient and healing properties for the skin. Fatty acids also help increase shine and reduce the frizz of your hair. It may also help protect hair from heat damage caused by flat irons and blow drying.
The American Shea Butter Institute warns that one of the main healing components in Shea butter is the Fatty acid and Cinnamic acid which is less present in inferior brands. They have issued classifications of different grades of quality, and the best grade with the fatty acid: oleic acid (40-60%), stearic acid (20-50%) linoleic acid (3-11%), palmitic acid (2-9%), linolenic acid (<1%) and arachidic acid (<1%) content is Grade A.
